Brittany's first week in Germany

We arrived in Germany after an eight hour flight. The first thing we did was get on a train which was exciting since neither Dad nor I had ever ridden on a train. The first day we just hung out in Erlangen and got used to all the different things about being in Germany. How the houses are different looking and how for the next two weeks we wont understand anyone or be able to read any directions or signs. It seems like the the cities are a slower pace and everything is much more calm. I like it a lot. We have gone to many castles and cathedrals. One castle was in Sulzbach and another in Nurnberg. The next day we went to Bamberg and went to the cathedral. At the cathedral we were able to go through almost a cave under it. It was a lot like in the movies. Outside of the cathedral there was a big courtyard and then another building. That was the home of the prince who was also the bishop since there wasnt separation of church and state. we finished the day by going to Regensburg and another cathedral. It was again gothic. We didnt get to stay very long because we had too much fun in the town before and it was closing time. however we also saw another church that was built in the old Jewish quarter. When the people of Regensburg were working on the electrical lines under the church they found an old home that had belonged to a Jewish family and in the back there was some gold. Then a little deeper, 10 feet under ground they found Roman ruins. After all that we went to a restaurant and had amazing italian food. Earlier in the trip we had typical German dishes that involved all different kinds of bread and meat ranging from bratwurst to a kind of meat that was like a meatloaf, but sort of like cheese, and its name in german had the word cheese in it. The next day we took a trip on the autobahn! It was fun going so fast, but there were always people going faster and it seemed like they shook the car when they passed. On this day trip we went to two castles that belonged to king LudwigII. The first was the famous Konigsschloß called Neuschwangstein, it was very nice. However, i dont know why he even had it built after we went to the first castle he had. It was so amazing. There was gold everywhere. He had a room of mirrors that was filled with candles and it seemed as if the mirrors went on forever when you looked in them. His bedroom was gold and blue. I have no idea how he was able to sleep in that room but out the window across from his bed was a man made waterfall that was pretty. after our tour of the castle we went up a huge hill to his man-made cave, it was pretty realistic. In this cave he would have people perform for him, but he loved to be alone. He lived in isolation except for his 5 servants, whom he avoided contact with. Today we went to münchen. we went to an art museum and had the opportunity to see many kandinsky paintings. He is my favorite painter so that was pretty cool. After the museum we wondered around munich. Thus far it has been the best european vacation ever! Lots of things here are different and it is fun to experience everything.

Hi, loyal readers,
I have had to institute an additional feature for adding comments. The other day we received comment spam from a "Rodrigo" selling personalized Tshirts in Portuguese. People who leave comments on this blog will be asked to type in a word that appears on the screen. This will shut out automated comment-spam. Thanks for your patience!
